A system that augments mixed reality visualizations using smartphones or tablets

  • Rather than making physical representations interactive, we pivoted to making virtual representation tangible instead

  • HoloTouch allows users to "touch" and manipulate holograms that they are seeing on HMDs (head-mounted displays) through their smartphone devices.

  • In the future, the new system proposed by this team of researchers could be used by designers and content creators to present data to students, professionals, or the public in more immersive ways.

  • A jacket equipped with sensors that let wearers feel hugs or even punches in virtual reality was among the innovations giving the metaverse a more realistic edge at the Consumer Electronics Show.

  • Our mission is to turn the virtual into reality with a second skin; to add the sense of touch in the metaverse or video games

  • But as the metaverse evolves, society will also need to be wary of dangers from online ills such as misinformation, harassment and losing touch with the real world, some experts warned.

  • The new eyeglasses from Xiaomi, in contrast, are meant to give wearers smartphone capabilities, such as reading email, taking pictures and responding to voice calls, but without a phone. Xiaomi has not abandoned the idea of offering AR applications though—their eyeglasses come with an app that helps guide users while driving and another app that overlays translated text

  • To provide smartphone-like services on an eyeglass frame, Xiaomi started by adding a tiny quad-core ARM processor small enough to fit within the frame, running a customized version of Android.

Simon's Comments:

  • This belong to VR, VR is not only for imaging but for all kind of reality such as conversation and negotiation like this.

  • This communication system will eventually merged with human community as part of the posthuman kind.

  • Let me call it virtual communication, VC. VC might be applied in legal situation, such as court case. In the past, there was court case in BINA48, and we will see if this is a signal for such emerging application.

Examining how humans develop trust towards embodied virtual agents (techxplore.com)

  • In the future, the findings collected by Morandinezhad and Dr. Solovey could inform practices in social robotics and pave the way toward the development of virtual agents that human users perceive as more reliable.

  • Ideally, we would like to develop an algorithm that can predict this in real-time. That would be the first step toward adaptive, emotionally aware intelligent agents that can learn from user' past behaviors, accurately predict their next behavior and calibrate their own behavior based on the user.

  • Would that create a human-virtual community, not just in the sense of  human interact with virtual community, but in a sense of treating virtual reality as part of  human life? Now we can offline from VR, but if we work constantly with VR, this is another question.​

  • MR cohort had a statistically significant mean increase

  • virtual human role-players have been shown to be as effective as real human role-players to support the practice of leadership skills
